A handful of Austin restaurants have been serving the same neighborhoods since before the city became a tech boomtown — Matt's El Rancho since 1952, Dirty Martin's since 1926. Not all of them made it: Threadgill's, the venue that gave Janis Joplin her first stage, closed for good in recent years.

This isn't a nostalgia list for its own sake — every spot below is still open today, still cooking the same food it always has, in a city that has otherwise changed almost completely underneath it. One name that would have belonged here, Threadgill's, didn't make the cut: it closed permanently, which is the whole reason "still standing" is the right title and not just "old."
